Miniatures Showcase compiled by the White Knight

Once in a while a fellow comes along, thinking: "Hey... what if...". Well, some people thought "What if WWII was set in a fantasy world with dwarves and orcs and elves?" Crazy, isn't it? Well, some of those wacky ideas made it into games and miniatures. The results can be seen below...

1. Wessex Games

Wessex Games produces the famous Panzerfäuste game, which is a fun set of fantasy WW2 skirmish rules where standard fantasy races such as Orcs, Dwarves and Elves fight out battles with 20th century weaponry. Currently, there are figures for Dwarves (Germany), Gnomes and Orcs (British). The Dwarves are the best figures.

2. Rebel Minis

Rebel Minis has a very small new Fantasy line (2 packs so far), offering Allied Elves & Dwarves and Axis Elves in 28mm. The Allied elves and dwarves are sculpted by Bobby Jackson. The Axis Elves are sculpted by James Linehan, and are less obviously WW2 inspired.

3. Alionas

This German company makes a small range of Red Army dwarves, with the occasional new release. These dwarves are of the (very) fat and beardless variety.

4. MSB Toys

MSB Toys makes a really ecclectic range of 28mm minitures including a couple that are useful for fantasy WW2, being the skull general and - probably way too weird - the totemic pig general.

5. Hasslefree Miniatures

Kev White makes a superb range of "Kindred" figures, which are actually WW1 themed halflings. We're a few decades early here, but beggars can't be choosers and these figures are "hot"!

6. Fenryll Miniatures

Fenryll's Sci-fi range has this nice Dwarven halftrack which would fit right in in a fantasy themed WW2 force, though the rider is less suitable and would better be replaced or converted.

7. Weird WWII

Don't forget to visit the Weird WWII Showcase for even more WW2 themed fantasy: including zombies, vampires, werewolves and lots more crazy monsters.

Of course, it's not because it's fantasy that you can't play humans, so the 'historical' WW2 section might be of interest as well.
